Main Settings (Community Template)

Community templates store the basic information from which communities are derived. Anyone who creates a community begins by selecting a community template and choosing whether or not to inherit future changes to this template. If a community is set to inherit its community template changes, any changes you make to this template will affect the community.

Creating a community template allows you to define the minimum requirements for communities. Community templates include page templates that define which portlets are included on the community’s pages. They can optionally include a header and footer that define the branding for the communities created from the template.

You can perform the following actions on this page:

• To add a page template:

1. Click Add Page Templates.
   
   Note: A particular page template can be added only once to a community template, but can be used more than once in a community.

2. In the Add Page Templates dialog box, select the page templates you want to add to this community template and click OK.
   
   Tip: To search for a page template, type text in the Search box and click .

• To remove a page template, select the template and click . If you remove a page template, the associated page will be removed from any communities that inherit the changes in this template. It might take up to 15 minutes for this occur.

• To select or clear all of the page template check boxes, select or clear the box to the left of Page Template Names.

• To change the order in which the pages will appear in the communities created from this template, perform any of the following actions:

• To move a page to the top of this list, click .
• To move a page up one space in this list, click .
• To move a page down one space in this list, click .
• To move a page to the bottom of this list, click .

Note: If you change the order of the pages, and communities have previously been created from this community template, the page order will change in all of the communities derived from this community template.

• Optionally, define a header and footer for your community template. On the left, under Edit Object Settings, click Header and Footer. If you define a header and footer in the community template, they cannot be changed in any communities created from this template. To learn more, see Header and Footer.

2. Open the Community Template Editor:
• To create a new community template:
1. Open an administrative folder.
2. In the Create Object drop-down list, click Community Template.
• To edit an existing community template:
1. Navigate to the community template you want to edit.
2. Click the community template name.
